Your Immune Defenses Going Down? Build Them Up!

Have you noticed when you listen, read or view the news today how many instances of tainted food is finding its way on the market. We hear about recall after recall. Ever notice that the recalls have to do with produce and not processed food? Now, we have a problem with a tainted steroid injection for pain and it’s killing people. Sometimes I wonder if the United States is being hit with biological warfare and we don’t even know it. It should be something to think about or it could come down to pure laziness on corporations not doing strict quality control.

What about your own defenses? How’s the function of your immune system at the moment? Do you feel you are protected enough that if you were to eat a particular food or come in contact with a bacteria, virus or fungus that your immune system will up to the task to prevent you from getting sick? The only time of year we used to worry about was winter time, the season for colds and flu. Now, that season is twelve months a year and cold medicine is flying off the shelves daily. This is not the way it should be!

I get asked all the time, “What can I do to keep my immune system strong?”. My answer is three things. Yes, you can take Vitamin C, but we have to go beyond that today. I prefer to use Colostrum, Thymus Extracts and Monolaurin. All three help to strengthen the immune system and provide a barrier to keep us from getting sick.

Colostrum is supposed to be our first food when we’re born. It is the food before breast milk and is only produced for 72 hours. So you’re thinking, I’m older and I can’t just go suck on somebody’s breast and get it. That’s right, you’d be arrested! But Colostrum is available in a supplement form to help you receive the immune factors you need. I take it daily and there are two reasons why I love colostrum. One, it helps to keep your small intestines healthy to provide a healthy barrier to separate the good from the bad. Many have a condition called Leaky Gut Syndrome, which simply means you lack the thin, opaque protective barrier lining that coats your small intestine. Without it, you are open to autoimmune diseases like Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia and others. Secondly, Colostrum strengthens the thymus gland, the heart of your immune system so to speak. Having healthy T-cells and B-cells will give you the power you need to have a strong healthy immune system.

I mentioned Thymus extracts. I take Colostrum and Thymus extracts together because as we age, the thymus gland shrinks and lowers the strength of our immune system. The elderly get sick quicker and have a harder time fighting off illness because their thymus glands are small. Taking Colostrum and a Thymus extract will help to add weight and keep the thymus gland strong and healthy. Personally, I haven’t had the flu in over 12 years and never take a flu shot. I owe it to Colostrum and Thymus extracts to keep me healthy.

Monolaurin is a nutrient is derived from coconut and is a powerful antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal compound which also helps to enhance the function of the immune system. This one is something that everyone needs to add to their nutritional medicine cabinet due to all the of problems we are seeing on our food supply and who knows maybe protect us from tainted drugs (no proof yet, but why take the chance?)

Monolaurin breaks down the protective protein coating around bacteria, viruses and fungi. This allows the immune system to effectively remove the offending particles and ward off what could have been a serious problem. Monolaurin is great for colds, flu, sinus, allergies, Lyme Disease, MRSA and others. Seriously, don’t ignore this important compound. Monolaurin has the same lauric acid property as mother’s breast milk so it has to be good!

Last but not least and is the most important and most vital component of your immune system and that is healthy gut flora. Our gastrointestinal tract is 70-80% of our immune system. If you have poor gut health, you will have poor overall health. Use a high quality probiotic to replenish and reestablish your good healthy gut flora and reverse a weak immune system. You whole body requires health gut bacteria to make you healthy and reverse poor health and disease. The perfect balance is 85% good bacteria and 15% bad bacteria.

The beneficial properties of probiotics are as follows:
  • Production of enzymes such as proteases which help digest proteins, and lipases, to digest fat .
  • Production of B vitamins which are biocatalysts in food digestion, particularly folic acid and Bl2 .
  • Improvement of the digestibility of food for animals .
  • Production of the natural antibiotic Acidophilin which has been patented, and Bulgarican has been produced from L. bulgaricus .
  • Inhibits of the growth of 23 toxic producing microorganisms .
  • Help in the alleviation of lactose intolerance caused by the deficiency of the enzyme lactase. Such L. acidophilus cultures produce significant quantities of lactase which may help digest lactose more fully and thereby reduce the possibility of bad breath, bloating, gas formation and stomach cramps .

To keep your immune system strong and vibrant invest high quality Colostrum, Thjymus Extracts, Monolaurin, and Protiiotics,

Improve Your Kid’s Day at School

Start the morning with oatmeal or protein. Oatmeal provides stable blood sugar and is good to keep kids from gaining weight. Normal blood sugar also provides a sharper mind and focus as well as energy. Add berries for added health benefits.

Protein sources can be a whey protein shake or a healthy yogurt with fat. Both provide 20 grams of high quality protein. Protein provides the body with amino acids which are converted into brain neurotransmitters and great for the immune system.

No coffee for kids, they aren’t adults!

Foods for Lunch

Do!
  • Put protein in their lunch! Yogurt is power-packed with healthy protein; very low sugar content (natural-occurring).
  • Give them a bag of berries or apples slices. You can cut the apples to look like French Fries. This gives your kids energy and blueberries offer neuroprotection and normalize blood sugar.
  • Use gluten-free bread instead of white bread. Kids don’t need refined sugar, it will prevent them from being at their mental best!
  •  Water is best as a beverage.

Don’t!
  • No white bread!
  • No candy!
  • No junk food such as Twinkies, Ding Dongs (this could make you kid a ding dong with their grades), M&M’s, Skittles, Kit Kats, etc. You get the picture.
  • No fast food driver-thru meals. They lack nutrition and damage the gastrointestinal tract.
  • No caffeine-enhanced energy drinks. Hyper kids are labeled hyperactive and the wrong diet could lead them to be placed on Ritalen.

After school!
Give your kid an apple, more berries, homemade guacamole with gluten free chips or healthy yogurt. Be creative and let your kids be a part of their healthy decisions. Low blood sugar in children leads to irritability, and lack of focus during the time they should be doing homework. Homework is best right after school, and then go play. Get your kids outside and let them play! Exercising or playing outside is great for mental and immune system health.

Kids need to get to bed at a decent hour to allow enough time for their bodies to regenerate and recharge for the next healthy day!

Supplements for Kids
  • High Quality Probiotic
  • High Quality Fish Oil
  • Phosphatidylserine (Used for memory and lowers cortisol)
  • Multiple Vitamin/Mineral Formula such as VitaPower-28 by Nutritional Living

Yep, this all about sex and there is nothing to be embarrassed about. With the announcement that a female version of Viagra is about to hit the market, nature has already had the answer to the problem. Let's take a look what can help put that healthy sexual fire back!

Ladies, make sure you take Vitamin E and the mineral Zinc to give your hormonal system a nutritional basis to stand on. These two simple nutrients are used for hormonal health. This article is not about how to stop hot flashes or mood swings, but how to get you back in the mood for love and I mean lovemaking. Let me take you for a walk through the herbal kingdom and show how to get that fire back.

The herbs:

Kacip Fatimah - Traditionally used by women in southeast Asia to enhance libido.  The bioactive phytoestrogen also helps tighten the vaginal muscles and strengthen the female reproductive system after child birth. This is perfect for women who say they don’t feel the same after giving birth. Very helpful.

White kwao krua - Traditionally used by Thai women to enhance sexual health and libido. Helps ease menopausal symptoms, improve facial complexion, firm the breast, and strengthen the female reproductive health.

Epimedium - A potent aphrodisiac and a valuable tonic for the reproductive system.  It stimulates sexual activity in both men and women, stimulates the sensory nerves throughout the body, especially in the genital region, and increases sexual desire. Known as Horny Goat Weed so it has to be good, right?

Ginkgo Biloba  - Not a sexual herb by any means, but is used to increase circulation to all parts of the body which assist in oxygen uptakes to all parts of body.  Ginkgo increases nitric oxide (NO) production which induces vasodilatation and help increase blood flow to all areas including the genital area.

Eleutherococcus senticosus - A powerful adaptogen and energy tonic that may help the body adapt to stress, increase energy and vitality, maintain normal immune response and increase mental sharpness.  By supporting healthy uterine and hormonal function, Useful in enhancing female fertility, maintaining normal menstrual flow, and relieving menopausal symptoms. Ladies, if stress is your reason why you aren’t in the mood for love, then Eleuthero is your remedy. It helps to strengthen your adrenal glands and protects you against stress.

Oak Gall - Traditionally used by the Malay women as a douche to eliminate yeast infections and unpleasant odors, and to tighten the birth channel. Oak Gall is a powerful antioxidant.

Maca - For hundreds of years native Peruvians have used Maca for its ability to increase energy and stamina and, more popularly, for its effectiveness as an aphrodisiac. Maca is a woman’s best friend. It will help normalize a woman’s complete hormonal system and increase fertility. Many clinical test have shown Maca to be the best herb to help improve hormonal health and sexual function.

Muira Puama Extract - Native tribes in the basins of Brazil's Amazon River and Venezuela's Orinoco River have used muira puama for various functions, including improving sexual desire. In men, it works like natural Viagra, but in women, it helps to improve blood flow to the genital area to increase sensitivity. But one secret of this herb when it comes to women is that it improves the vaginal lubrication needed for more enjoyable lovemaking.

Rhodiola Rosea - A legendary adaptogenic tonifier that comes from the polar Arctic regions of Eastern Siberia. Also known as rhodiola was highly valued by traditional Arctic tribes as a strengthening tonic to increase physical and mental stamina. Again, this herb isn’t related to sex, but helps to relieve stress.

TongKat Ali - Helps increase free testosterone production, DHEA, and reduces the sex hormone binding globulin. This in turn helps to enhance sexual function, improves mood, and increases energy levels. Want to know the secret to increased sexual desire? It’s testosterone, that’s right the same hormone that makes men who they are, but a tiny bit in women helps to turn a cat into a tigress faster than a leopard can pounce on its prey. Doctors do prescribe a small amount of testosterone for older women to reignite the internal flame of love. Get a boost of testosterone and the first stop could be Victoria’s Secret.
